ANNE ZAHALKA (with Sam St Jon and Historic Street Photographs by Residents of the Illawarra)

In the mid 1900s, street photographers captured candid images of life and the community in Wollongong. For many residents, these affordable postcard sized prints were the only visual record available to them.

This exhibition presents a historic portrait of local life mapped across the streets and beaches of the Illawarra. Collected through a call-out from residents, these historic street photos have been assembled to provide a tangible trace of the city allowing visitors to reimagine how this city once looked.
