Gurangaty Water Place
Corner Crown Street & Kembla Street, Wollongong
The mosaic artwork by Nick Brash and Aunty Lorraine Brown found at the bottom of this fountain is one of the oldest public artworks in the CBD, installed in 1997. The fountain is situated above the Gurangaty creek, which was an important water source for Aboriginal people and early settlers to Wollongong. This piece features an underground serpent as well as European water jugs – symbolising the importance of of water for both cultures.
