Mollie Tranter

Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design - Design Centre Enmore, TAFE NSW Wollongong

What was your process for creating the work – from the visual design to the animation?

Creating is what makes me happy. I was new to animation and design when I pursued this project, but I found this process to be a natural one. I started by drawing my ideas to make sense of them and then looking up other inspiration to develop my own creative ideas.

Is there a special meaning or intent behind the work?

When creating something abstract it's hard to find a sense of meaning which was a challenge for me as I tend to stick with creating works that are realistic or represent a human feature. For this project I wanted to draw the audience in and create intrigue so I played around with colours and glow which helped to illuminate those elements.

How do you feel about the increasing use of technology to create art?

Technology is difficult when you come from mediums such as paint and pencil. It’s an adjustment, but one that opens you up to endless possibilities. Art for me, is a gateway to expressing my views whether that be political, sexual or personal and that’s more important than focusing on what medium I’m using. Instead I try and focus on how I can translate the message to people while staying true to my most authentic self.

Have you enjoyed working with Augmented Reality, and is it something you’d like to continue working with?

AR is amazing and it’s an important future in the art world. It’s relevant because it’s what people of this generation respond to. And it’s super fun!! We can use this technology for education, fun, marketing, news everything. How cool!!

How long have you lived in Wollongong and what is your favourite part of the area?

I’ve lived in the Gong for 11 years and my favourite thing about this place is it changes all the time. The ocean, the people, the art, the mountains. How can you choose just one?

What are your hopes and plans for the coming years?

I haven't graduated yet, but my plan for he future is to become a self employed graphic designer so that I can travel the world and become the independent creative I've always dreamed of.
