Held annually on 21st June, Make Music Day will come to life again across Australia and the rest of the world. Wollongong Conservatorium of Music is offering a day of free outdoor performances in the mall supported by the Wollongong City Council.

🎶11am:  The Wollcon Jazz Band

🎼12pm:  The Make Music Day Scratch Band (Combined Schools and Wollcon Bands)

🎹 1pm: WollCon Symphony Orchestra

🎤 3pm: Community Ensembles: Curious Rendition Orchestra (Crow) | Con Artists | Minor Swing Band

Wollcon Jazz Band

The WollCon Jazz Band brings together students from across the Illawarra to explore the sounds of Swing, Latin, Bebop, and Funk. Under the direction of David Rodriguez-Lovibond, the band dives into improvisation and the rich world of jazz styles.

Wollcon Make Music Day | All-Star Scratch Band

Students from Wollongong Conservatorium of Music in-school and after school band programs are invited to attend the Wollongong CBD at Midday, Saturday 21st June with their instrument. The All-Star Scratch Band – made up of students from different schools who have not played music together previously – will present an exuberant set of pre-selected (but unrehearsed) tunes to celebrate the joy of making music.

Wollcon Symphony Orchestra | Conductor Mikaela Johnson-Wu

Established in 2015 as part of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music Community Ensembles Program, the Wollcon Symphony Orchestra carries forward a proud tradition of amateur symphonic music in the Illawarra region.

The ensemble performs a rich and varied repertoire, ranging from classical masterworks by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, Bizet, Borodin, Berlioz, and Mozart and more, to contemporary community orchestra favourites by Moncayo and Márquez.

Con Artists, Crow & Minor Swing at Lux Bistro Bar

Supported by Wollongong City Council, The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music Community Ensembles celebrate Make Music Day with an early evening set outside Lux Bistro Bar.

CURIOUS RENDITION ORCHESTRA (Crow)

The Curious Rendition Orchestra is a 35 piece dynamic, inclusive community band based at Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. Known for their spirited performances, they have graced stages at Illawarra Folk Festival, Honk Oz, Lazybones and Coledale Markets. Their diverse repertoire and engaging presence make them a recognised part of the local music scene.

CON ARTISTS

Fun and irreverent, The Con Artists are a carnival of percussion, wind, brass, accordions, and fiddles. Based at Wollongong Conservatorium of Music, this all-ages community band combines young up-and-coming WollCon students, adult community musicians, and some of the region’s most prominent folk musicians, playing dissident and celebratory folk music from around the world

MINOR SWING BAND

Led by Callum Burns, the Minor Swing Band is a guitar-driven ensemble that captures the spirit of Django Reinhardt–inspired jazz. Their relaxed, swinging sound is the perfect soundtrack for a wintery evening outdoors at Lux Bistro Bar

Presented by Wollongong Conservatorium of Music with Support from Wollongong City Council
