Seiji Kawakami, Visual Artist |
Seiji Kwakami is an emerging artist originally from Tochigi, about an hour from Tokyo Japan who now lives in Wollongong. The Crown Lane Exhibition launched during the Laneways Live event in May 2022 and is the latest collection of artworks by the artist.
"I moved to Australia in February 2020 in search of a new adventure,"
"I decided on Wollongong because I liked the laid-back culture and lifestyle," he said.
From professional soccer player to art, Seiji began painting in December 2020. Seiji began painting. Two years on, his style is heavily influenced by the world around him.
"I've devoted my soul to my art and I'm inspired by people and friends in many cities, as well as news, music and movie."
"My paintings express doubts about the world and my worldview and a lot of inspiration is drawn from people in pubs and nightclubs especially," he said.
The now-local artist still plays soccer with the Wollongong United FC and works part-time at Beast & Bread Good Food Eatery
"My favourite thing about Wollongong is the small town feel,"
"There's lots of beaches and nature but above all else friendly people," he said.
Seiji Kwakami's exhibition in Crown Lane is partly displayed on the exterior wall of Wollongong Central Shopping Centre and in the Beast & Bread Good Food Eatery.
