What has been your process for creating the work – from the visual design to the animation?
This particular work was a long creative process starting with the initial design and overall look to the purposeful movements of each element. The tiled animation was a simple yet impactful notion of animation, it achieved basic outcomes of the brief non-narrative, experimental and abstract. This was one of many brainstorming ideas so I continued with this design. It included a variety of visual elements each with its own purpose and distinct features. The animation creates experimental movement in each tile by including different waves of movement and flowing paths. The colours were one of the last steps once I had narrowed down each animation. I believe it added a level of cohesiveness however this layout could work with a variety of palettes so long as each element can be easily contrasted from one another. Once each tile component was prepared, I placed them all together and voila!

Is there any special meaning or intent behind the work?
The main intent of this animation was to create cohesiveness amongst the chaos. Each tile had a different movement but also flowed with the others surrounding it. It was a simple yet creative notion and it completed the assessment brief which after all, was a constraint to this as it would've been in the industry anyway.

How do you feel about the increasing use of technology to create art?
I think we are very lucky to be living in such a fast-paced technological industry. The businesses that grow with this technology and create a balance between their workplace, clients and technology will succeed as they will appeal to all new audiences and have a thorough connection with all past technologies. I do think design will never die, however in some ways I think it's important to go back to the roots of design to understand how it has grown.

Have you enjoyed working with Augmented Reality, and is it something you’d like to continue working with?
AR was an interesting technology to work with, it's something that really brings design to life which is simply quite cool. I personally lean towards graphic design rather than animation however, I do think AR is very much going to be alive and amongst the future of design industries.

What is your favourite thing about the area Wollongong area?
Studying in Wollongong was a very liberating experience. I think the area is a good mix of young and fresh, and the environment is just the perfect combination of coastal and in some parts country.

If you’ve just graduated, what are your hopes and plans for the coming years?
I have just graduated and I've luckily been trying for the past year to gain experience within the industry of graphic design as it's vital for most junior roles, and I was able to gain a position within The Daily Press Group last June and have been working on all sorts of design artworks for an immense amount of clients since so I really just hope to gain more experience and understanding in the industry of design.

Where would you like people to look to find out more about you and your work?
Working with The Daily Press Group I don't necessarily have an individual site for my work that is recent however I do have a previous portfolio site with some old client work and university projects within https://laurenjosephine.myportfolio.com/work
